RMTC provided full construction management services for the new Ferry Terminal Building at Pier 19, Honolulu Harbor, in compliance with all Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements for recordkeeping and documentation for the Harbors Division, Department of Transportation.
RMTC's construction management team developed a plan of action to deal with numerous unforeseen site conditions resulting from the age of demolished structures, such as requirements for asbestos and lead paint abatement. To minimize delays from site conditions, RMTC conducted weekly coordination meetings to identify potential problem areas and expedite contractor response time.
Construction activities overseen by RMTC construction managers involved: water, sewer and drainage facilities; demolition of buildings; removal of asbestos-containing material; removal of lead-containing materials; new ferry terminal building with architectural, mechanical, fire protection and electrical improvements; and parking lot. Concrete and soil compaction testing at the site was performed by personnel who are certified with “State Highways Certifications for Testing of Materials.”
