Kalaeloa Airport (JRF) Improvements

Location: Oahu, Hawaii
Client Name: State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Harbors Division
Date Completed: 2007
Construction Cost: $10,600,000
Disciplines Applied: Construction Management

Project Description:

RMTC managed construction of improvements to the runways, taxiways, runway and taxiway lighting; improvements to navigational aides and signage; crack repair; and upgrades to the electrical system. As a result of RMTC's efforts, the repaving of the center section of Runway 4R/22L proceeded with minimal disruptions to airport users such as the U.S. Coast Guard. Construction of a perimeter road was also completed, giving the State of Hawaii a smooth new driving surface on which to perform fencing security checks.

This project required extensive coordination among the contractor, State and Federal agencies, and airport users to sequence the various phases of the work while keeping the airport continuously and fully operational. Construction proceeded smoothly because of the RMTC construction managers' past experience with airport work, familiarity with airport operational requirements, and extensive experience in coordination of interests between the contractor and the State of Hawaii.
