Safeway Center at Kapahulu

RMTC performed civil engineering and topographic surveying services for the construction of the proposed 61,405-square foot Kapahulu Safeway retail complex. In addition to a Safeway grocery store, the development includes two attached retail shops, and three separate retail structures.
The project is located on 4.75 acres on Kapahulu Avenue in urban Honolulu. This roadway links Waikiki to the community of Kaimuki and the University of Hawaii campus in Manoa.
RMTC’s scope of work included widening Kapahulu Avenue, improving three intersections including ADA improvements, parking lot (at grade and rooftop), street lights and traffic signal lights, fire water system, domestic water system, industrial sewer systems, domestic sewer systems, drainage retention system, gravity and forced drainage, systems, parking, loading area, handicap route design, environmental control, and best management practices. To accommodate the anticipated increase of traffic, road widening improvements and an additional lane for left turns were constructed along Kapahulu Avenue fronting the project site. Off-site infrastructure requirements included widening of Kapahulu Avenue to accommodate a turn lane and new traffic signal.
