Project Description:
RMTC was selected as prime consultant for this $23-million project at the Pier 52 to 53 Container Yard. Matson Navigation Company leases this area from the State of Hawaii for loading, unloading and storage of containers and general cargo transported to and from Honolulu. RMTC provided surveying, engineering and construction services for the reconstruction of 60 acres of utilities (water, drainage and lighting) and five acres of pavement along Piers 52 to 53 on Sand Island. The existing asphalt concrete pavement had experienced severe damage due to the extreme loading conditions imposed by container-handling equipment, as well as normal wear and tear.
