This award winning project involved facilities improvements along Kuhio Beach and modifications to a portion of Kalakaua Avenue between Kaiulani and Kapahulu Avenues. Kuhio Beach is part of the over one-mile long stretch of sandy shoreline, commonly known as Waikiki Beach . Waikiki Beach is well known and most visited beach in the State which extends from the Diamond Head end of Fort DeRussy to Waikiki Aquarium.

The purpose of the project was to expand usable beach park areas by eliminating a traffic lane on Kalakaua Avenue . The project consisted of creating landscaped areas with meandering walkways, hula and entertainment area, water features and a new restroom facility along Kuhio Beach ; and replacing the existing water line with a new 16" water line in Kalakaua Avenue . Components of the project included public outreach, working with the City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaii in the development of conception plans, preparation of bid documents and performance of services during construction.
